This is a convo that alot of people will have in the next few weeks before the Grammy's on January 26th. I personally liked both Macklemore's "The Heist" and Kendrick's "Good Kid Maad City" but if I had that final vote then it would go to Kendrick without a doubt. Not only did really put West Coast Hip Hop back on the map firmly that album from top to bottom is a must listen to...almost like watching a movie. Kendrick as also made alot of other "Rappers" in the game change the way they make songs and albums. I'm pretty sure that Mack will win at least 1 of the 7 Grammy's that he is nominated for but I just hope it is not Best Rap Album!
Here is what Macklemore had to say about it:
Macklemore and co conspirator Ryan Lewis capped off a huge year with a whopping seven Grammy nominations and more than 13 million in sales from their collaborative album The Heist. Now Macklemore was named The Source's "Man of the Year" and landed a spot on their January 2014 front cover. In an interview with The Source Macklemore addressed a multitude of topics, from the skeptics, the success of his hit song "Thrift Shop," and the upcoming Grammy Awards.
Macklemore addressed both the skeptics and upcoming Grammy Awards at one fell swoop, believing that his album The Heist wins Best Rap Album at the Grammys later this month, hip-hop will be "heated."
"Then he's got a point. [In the Best Rap Album category], we're up against Kendrick, who made a phenomenal album. If we win a Grammy for Best Rap Album, hip-hop is going to be heated," Macklemore said.
In addition, Macklemore praised Kendrick Lamar, expressing his unbridled support for the California rapper, saying he should Best Rap Album for his breakthrough album good kid, m.A.A.d city.
"In terms of [that category], I think it should go to Kendrick," he said. "He's family. TDE is family, and I understand why Hip-Hop would feel like Kendrick got robbed [if he didn't win]. I'm not trying to compare albums; I think you can make an argument for both. With that being said, I am a huge supporter of what Kendrick does. And because of that, I would love to win in a different category. We obviously had massive success on commercial radio, and I think that, in ways, The Heist was a bigger album, but Kendrick has a better rap album."
Macklemore is going to have some competition, in addition to Kendrick Lamar he's up against Drake, Jay Z, and Kanye West.
