Beastie Boys’ ‘To the 5 Boroughs’ Returns in Deluxe Vinyl and CD Editions

Beastie Boys arrives to the Mtv Video Music Awards on August 29^ 2004 in Miami^ FL.

The Beastie Boys are bringing their 2004 album To the 5 Boroughs back into the spotlight with a newly announced limited-edition reissue arriving April 17. The expanded release will be offered as a triple-LP vinyl set and a two-CD collection, both featuring 11 additional tracks made up of remixes and B-sides. It marks the first time the 2019 digital deluxe version of the album will be available in physical form.

The vinyl edition will be pressed on 180-gram records and packaged in a triple gatefold sleeve featuring pop-up details and a subway map lithograph, all enclosed in a sturdy slipcase. Meanwhile, the double-CD version will arrive in a multi-panel soft-pack design.

Originally released in June 2004, the group’s sixth studio album was entirely self-produced and served as a tribute to their hometown of New York City. It was also their first full-length project since 1998’s Hello Nasty, and it reflected on the city’s resilience in the wake of the September 11 attacks. The album blended playful cultural nods with sharper social commentary; tracks such as “Ch-Check It Out,” “Triple Trouble,” and “Shazam!” showcased the group’s signature wit, while songs such as “Right Right Now Now,” “It Takes Time To Build,” and “An Open Letter To NYC” tackled weightier political and social themes.

Upon its debut, To the 5 Boroughs topped the Billboard 200 and led multiple charts, including Top Rap Albums, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Top Current Albums, Rap Album Sales and Top Album Sales. It became the trio’s third consecutive No. 1 album in the U.S. and later earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album (ultimately losing to Kanye West’s The College Dropout.)
